Tri-Union Seafoods, the US holding company of Thai Union Frozen Products, is voluntarily recalling a limited amount of Chicken of the Sea brand 12-ounce chunk light tuna in water, over fears some may contain metal fragments.

The recall was enacted "because the product may contain metal pieces from a broken piece of equipment used to produce the tuna, posing a possible choking hazard," the San Diego-based company said in a statement.

Nearly 2,400 cans of potentially affected tuna were shipped to Publix stores in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina, according to the statement.
