Norwegian salmon farmer Cermaq is investing in a new smolt facility, which will help the company reach its goal of becoming self-sufficient.
With several new production licenses the pressure is on to ramp up smolt production in the region, Geir Molvik, managing director at Cermaq Norway, told IntraFish.
The new facility has a production license to produce 8.4 million smolt, and is divided into two sections. Each will produce two batches of 2.1 million smolt.
The building will be constructed as a flow-through system, manned by 10-12 employees.
