Cemaq, the world’s largest supplier of coho, is looking for new markets for its Chilean farmed coho as Japanese buyers back off.
Prices have tumbled, and coho is selling at 40 percent below its level last year at this time. The decline began steadily in August of 2011, when the price for frozen coho was JPY630 ($7.89 / €6) per kilogram for 4 to 6 pounders to the Tsukiji market. This September, that price had dropped to JPY395 ($4.95 / €3.81)
