Despite being the second largest salmon producing country in the world, Chile’s aquaculture industry is suffering an endless crisis that, in a country like Norway, would have been resolved many years ago, said Cermaq’s Jon Hindar at the IntraFish Seafood Investor Forum.

Every country has a particular regulation, and Chile has a very singular one with allocations given by licenses, which are relatively small, Hindar said.

However, the main challenge for the country’s farming sector is disease which leads, almost automatically, to financial losses.
