Growth in the Norwegian aquaculture industry cannot continue in the manner it has, Isaksen said Nov. 7 in Norwegian business newspaper Dagens Naeringsliv.
“The last few years the annual Norwegian production growth has been 25 percent and 30 percent. Such dramatic growth in the salmon industry cannot be continued with,” he told IntraFish via the company's communications director, Lise Bergan.
In 2010, Norwegian authorities will permit increased growth of up to 5 percent in maximum allowed total biomass (MTB).
“We don’t want to make any comments on concrete percentages for ideal growth, but growth must be adapted to capacity for sustainability and sanitary conditions.
