Fresh from its recent trip from Icelandic shipyard Slippurinn, through the Panama Canal to Port Alberni, Canada, the factory trawler Raw Spirit, formerly the Nordfjordtral , is now just weeks away from launching into the Pacific hake (Merluccius productus) fishery under its new owners, Independent Seafood Canada Corp. (ISCC).
The 144-foot Raw Spirit is owned by ISCC president Kelly Andersen, who partnered with Fisher Bay Seafood ‘s Tracy Ronlund and Theresa Williams and the Jim Pattison-owned Canadian Fishing Company (Canfisco) to buy it from Norway’s Aker Seafoods for $7.4
