Canadian retailers are being urged to address issues related to the sustainability of farmed salmon, farmed shrimp and skipjack tuna found on their shelves.

Sustainability watchdog SeaChoice said consumers are finding it easier to make sustainable seafood choices thanks to cooperation between Canadian retailers and Seafood Progress, an online reporting program run by SeaChoice.

Transparency and accountability improved for many of Canada’s largest food retailers in the program’s second year of assessments.

Metro, Loblaw and Save-On Foods received the highest overall scores, with Metro showing the strongest year-to-year improvement.
