Buyers embrace Gulf of Mexico transparency program

The Gulf of Mexico Reef Fish Shareholders’ Alliance’s traceability program is now live, enabling consumers and seafood buyers to look up information on where their fish comes from. The effort meets a growing need to know among consumers.

“People want to know what they’re eating. That’s a no brainer,” alliance board member Jason Delacruz told IntraFish on Thursday.

Anyone interested – be they buyers, regulators or consumers – can look up where the fish from participating Gulf of Mexico fisheries came from, what type of fish it really is and who the supplier is at www.myGulfWild.com.
