With its acquisition of Bumble Bee Seafoods for $1.5 billion (€1.2 billion), announced Thursday, Thai Union Frozen Products (TUF) has significantly altered its business profile, building on its Chicken of the Sea tuna brand to create a clear leader in the canned tuna sector in North America.
On Dec. 18, TUF agreed to acquire 100 percent of Bumble Bee for total purchase price of $1.51 billion (€1.2 billion), its third deal of the year following the acquisition of 100 percent of the shares in French smoker MerAlliance and 100 percent shares of Norwegian canner King Oscar.
