Camil Alimentos, a food company with sales of BRL 1.4 billion (€584.4 million/$802.3 million) in its 2011 fiscal year, bought Coqueiro from PepsiCo Friday for an undisclosed amount.
The deal is Camil Alimentos' second purchase of a major Brazilian seafood canner in the past months -- potentially making it the largest seafood canner in Brazil, close in size to Calvo Group's Gomes da Costa.
"We love to compete," a top executive from Calvo told IntraFish. "Let the games begin."
The acquisition includes two Coqueiro plants, one in Sao Goncalo and another in Itajai.
