Since the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in 2010, BP has donated a total of $30 million (€23 million) to seafood marketing efforts through the Louisiana Seafood Marketing and Promotion Board.
The board has received $15 million (€11.4 million) so far. Since the money started flowing in May of 2011, the board has spent $8.2 million (€6.3 million).
So far the most tangible benefit to the industry is the website, buy.louisianaseafood.com, which helps buyers and sellers of seafood connect with each other and access marketing and advertising materials, which the board ships for free.
