Norwegian newspaper Dagens Naeringsliv (DN) reported this week that Norwegian salmon and trout are making their way into Russia via neighboring countries, despite a complete ban on Norwegian salmonids.
DN has spoken to several salmon and trout producers, including Fjordlaks Aqua, which has for the first time started selling to Belarus after the implementation of the ban.
Several anonymous exporters have also said Norwegian salmon is being shipped into Russia via countries such as Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.
“Indications are that exports are stepping up to countries next to Russia, and that processing is taking place there.
