That means the country’s production will be back up to around 400,000 metric tons Atlantic salmon in 2013.
IntraFish caught up with SalmonChile’s chairman Cesar Barros after he had addressed the North Atlantic Seafood Forum conference in Oslo on March 2.
Barros does not believe the growth is premature. “Due to infectious salmon infection (ISA) we lost a whole decade. We have been back to 2001-levels,” Barros said.
“But growth is progressing well. We have a low mortality rate, the fish are growing quickly and slaughtering weight is accordingly high.
