“[A]ll the things we were promised wouldn’t happen have happened,” Bob Piorkowski, Invasive Species Program Coordinator for the Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G) told IntraFish.

On Wednesday, August 20, a sports fisherman reported the second suspected Atlantic salmon capture in less than a month in Ketchikan, Alaska.

The salmon caught near the mouth of the Copper River was preliminarily confirmed as an Atlantic, but further genetic testing will provide proof of the fish’s identity. Piorkowksi said that the two captures – which bring the total suspected captures to three and the confirmed captures to one for 2003 - further highlight the need to more closely monitor escapees.
