Sardine demand booming
Demand for canned sardines is so strong that Mega Fishing Corporation, a Philippines-based processor, is building a second plant.
The company is building the new facility in Zamboanga, in the south of the country, to feed domestic demand.
"The existing plant will be used just for exports and the new plant for the Philippines," said Angelica Sacdalan, an export account officer with the company.
The company sells sardines in cans and also pouches, both under its Mega brand and also for private label.
