Walmart-owned retailer Asda removed Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP)-labeled shrimp supplied by Cumbrian Seafoods, when it was informed the shrimp was not certified to the BAP standard.

Asda, the second largest retailer in the United Kingdom in revenues, pulled the shrimp when it was flagged by Young’s Seafood -- whose owner Lion Capital has taken over Cumbrian Seafoods' business -- as possibly being from non-BAP sources, Asda said in a statement to IntraFish.

“We are working closely with Lion Capital and Young’s Seafood in their recent takeover of Cumbrian Seafoods,” said the spokeswoman for Asda.
