The United Kingdom’s second largest retailer had been selling shrimp from non-BAP certified sources which Cumbrian -- now renamed Ocean Pure after being bought from administration by Young’s Seafood owner Lion Capital – was supplying to Asda in packets carrying the BAP logo.
When Young’s Seafood confirmed to IntraFish this practice had been going on at Cumbrian, Asda subsequently issued a statement saying it had pulled this product from its shelves.
However, a source familiar with the working of the Trace Register system in place at Cumbrian said this would have been detected.
