At the seafood conference “Sjomatdagene” last week in Hell, Norway, keynote speaker Erik Slinde asked his audience how dangerous escapes from fish farms are for the wild salmon.

Environmentalists, public administration, the media and public opinion are often highly critical of the salmon industry, due specifically to escapes.

At the Hell debate, there were some that contend the danger is exaggerated and generalized.

Slinde, who is a professor at the University for environmental and biosciences at Aas, held an address on a new method of slaughter in fish farming.
