In the Netherlands, a country where the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) seal is regarded as the most reliable indicator of sustainability, the canned tuna sector has conditioned consumers not to buy MSC tuna, said Henk Brus, CEO of Pacifical, at the European Tuna Conference on Monday.

A look at MSC and non-MSC canned tuna on sale, both branded and private label, shows that certified tuna is sold at prices between 35 percent and 135 percent higher than non-certified products.
