Privately held Dutch trading giant SHV submitted a conditional offer of €40 ($51) per share for feed producer Nutreco Monday, valuing the company at €2.68 billion ($3.4 billion).

Regarded as one of the world's largest private trading groups, SHV has interests in transport, retail, oil and financial services, including part of the Makro cash-and-carry chain.

While a potential deal between the two companies “will mean very little” for the everyday operations of Nutreco, the announcement “could trigger other bids from other parties,” Maarten Bakker, analyst at ABN AMRO, told IntraFish.
