The early mortality syndrome (EMS) is more than likely going to be “eradicated” in 2014, Gorjan Nikolik, analyst at Rabobank told IntraFish. Once Thailand resumes its position as the world’s number one exporter, “then you’ll see a major crash of the price,” he said.
At the moment, the Thai spot price for shrimp is fluctuating at around THB 215 (€5.20/$6.90) to THB 220 (€5.30/$7) per kilo, said Nikolik.
This time last year, the average price was more like THB 140 (€3.40/$4.50), with lows of around THB 120 (€2.90/$3.80)
