“Iceland’s takeover shouldn’t really be of that much significance, except in terms of the level of security now provided,” Hatlebrekke told IntraFish. “Borrowers can thank their lucky stars.”

Hatlebrekke said he will be watching to see if Glitnir is forced to tone down the ambitions it has for international growth and investment.

Seafood stocks continued watching their share prices drop Monday after the Glitnir news broke, though Hatlebrekke said there was no connection.

“This has to do with the general credit crisis, not the state taking control of Glitnir,” he said.
