The news fuelled speculation that the analyst may step in as the new CEO of SalMar, a Norwegian and Oslo-listed salmon producer.

SalMar has been on the lookout for a new CEO at least since last October, when Leif Nordhammer announced that he would step down.

However, Hatlebrekke dismissed the rumors.

"It is very nice that some people believe that I could have done a good job at SalMar," Hatlebrekke told IntraFish.

"But my departure has nothing to do with SalMar," he said. "I have other reasons."
