A merged Marine Harvest and AquaChile could be almost three times as large as the world's second biggest farmer of salmon, according to figures provided by Kolbjorn Giskeodegaard, senior analyst at Nordea Market.

That is, if one takes the new merged company as a whole, which is not the case yet.

According to the deal, announced Monday, Marine Harvest will own only 43 percent of AquaChile, but has the option to increase its stake to 55 percent  as of June 15, 2016.

Marine Harvest is the world's largest salmon producer and alone is more than twice as large as the next competitor on the list.
