Exports of Atlantic salmon from Chile have not yet begun to fall quite as dramatically expected, even though production has fallen significantly. This year's harvest fell around 60 percent by volume so far, according to Kontali Analysis.
The Chilean supply remained "surprisingly high" throughout May, Kontali said.
”Yes, it is strange, especially because the biomass in Chile began to fall in May last year. Nevertheless, exports remained virtually unchanged in volume," said Sletmo Day of brokering firm ABG Sundal Collier.
Chile increased exports to Brazil, but at lower prices than its old main market, the United States, due to smaller sizes and lower quality, he said.
