Though mortalities caused by the algal bloom have begun to decline, the toxic algae caused deaths of all farmed salmon in Chile’s Region X, reports Tele 13.

Chilean salmon mortalities have hit 24.2 million fish as of March 17, the National Fisheries Service (Sernapesca) confirmed to IntraFish.

Only three days earlier, on March 14, mortalities were at 23.8 million salmon, which means 400,000 fish died in 72 hours, said Raul Sunico, Chile's undersecretary of fisheries and aquaculture.

In addition, 83.8 percent of mortalities have been removed from the centers.
