US seafood companies are running the risk of losing the considerable per-metric-ton premium for Alaska salmon sold with Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certification, sources told IntraFish.
The announcement from companies representing approximately 72 percent of the Alaska salmon harvest on Jan. 18 effectively ended more than a decade-long relationship between Alaska salmon suppliers and the MSC.
What impact this move will have on prices remains to be seen.
