Palin told the Anchorage Daily News she’s concerned about the merger of Japanese companies Maruha and Nichiro, expected by this fall.

The potential for the combined company to consolidate Alaska processing plants, and for local fishermen to receive lower prices for their catches, are major concerns, the governor said.

"Although we are not opposed to the proposed consolidation of the two companies' global assets, we are concerned about how the merger will impact fisheries in the North Pacific," Palin said in a June 13 letter to top officials in the U.S.
