The North Pacific Fishery Management Council (NPFMC) on Thursday set a total allowable catch (TAC) of 1.34 million metric tons for the Eastern Bering Sea pollock fishery in 2016, a 2.3 percent rise over this year, reflecting scientists’ confidence that the resource is healthy.
Last year, the 1.31 million metric ton TAC for the Eastern Bering Sea, together with the Aleutian Islands pollock allocation of 19,000 metric tons, was up 3.9 percent over the year prior.
The council kept the TAC for the Aleutian Islands stable at 19,000 metric tons.
