As one of the best "A" fishing seasons in years for Alaska pollock winds down, executives with major US harvesting companies told IntraFish "B" season prices are expected to increase across all product types by as much as $100-$200 per metric ton for pinbone out (PBO) blocks and surimi.
With National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) statistics showing roughly 86 percent of the "A" season quota harvested as of March 22 -- around 500,000 metric tons -- processors are looking ahead to determine whether a shift in production volume is necessary and where the market demand is the greatest.
