What Severinsen holds in his fist is a new substance that bears the name polythylene terephthalate (PET). He is hoping this will replace the usual nylon and dynema.
PET is not entirely new, having been put to use for more than 20 years in Japan. Two Norwegian companies have tested nets with this substance for several years already. In 2009 Akva Group attempted to launch the concept, but reception was not exactly overwhelming. A lot has happened since then, including a rather intense focus on escapes.
