“Flat fish are down 30 [percent], 50 percent. That’s why I’m taken aback by the Norwegian farmed salmon actually going up in price,” said Guus Pastoor, chairman of the EU Fish Processors Association (AIPCE).
The boss of the EU importers association said Norwegian salmon needed to move away from criticizing the pangasius industry, and warned against protectionist measures as a response.
In an interview with IntraFish, Pastoor said AIPCE was worried about the rising salmon prices, adding a few years ago prices suddenly jumped and became too high for the smokehouses, which were forced to bring in cheaper fish species.
