The trade war between the United States and China has hit the "already damaged" Peruvian fishing industry badly, said Pablo Trapunsky, CEO of Pesquera Diamante, one of the largest anchovy harvesters and fishmeal, fish oil producers in Peru.

Traders buying fishmeal in dollars in Peru are struggling to make business in China after the devaluation of the yuan against the dollar, Trapunsky told IntraFish.

"At the moment there are around 300,000 metric tons of fishmeal at Chinese ports," he said.
