Vietnam’s seafood exports are predicted drop 13 percent year-on-year to $1.15 billion (€855.4 million) in the first quarter of 2013, reported the Vietnam Economic Times.

Neither pangasius nor shrimp have shown the expected strong export results, said the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), according to the news outlet.

By mid-January, pangasius exports had reached $63.38 million (€47.1 million), a decrease of 20.7 percent year-on-year.

Due to the sharp reduction in exports to major markets such as the European Union, the United States, ASEAN, Mexico and Brazil, fluctuations in domestic prices and difficulties in access to capital for pangasius farmers, expectations for the first quarter now stand at $230 (€171.1)
