The Alaska pollock "A" season in the Bering Sea has finished, with producers catching up on production for nearly all major product forms except for pinbone-out (PBO) fillet blocks, despite one of the most disruptive periods in the sector's history.
Production of PBO is not likely to increase despite the rising prices for the product, with companies still focused on meeting valuable deep-skin pollock contracts.
"With the demand for deep-skin, we are seeing producers shift from PBO to try and meet that demand," one executive with a major inshore pollock processing plant in Alaska told IntraFish.
