Chile's recent algal bloom outbreaks have been an unwelcome hit to those companies who have experienced die-offs, but the levels remain reasonable and could even provide a lift to salmon prices over the year.

Around 4,507 metric tons of salmon have now been lost to low oxygen levels and algal blooms at production sites in Chile's Aysen and Los Lagos regions, National Fisheries and Aquaculture Service (Sernapesca) said in an update Friday.

The number includes another 263 metric tons added to the total since Thursday.
