Veramaris, a microalgae oil producer, hired former Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute (ASMI) and AquaChile marketing executive Victoria Parr as business development director for North America.

Parr will be responsible for driving efforts in the United States, working closely with seafood wholesalers, retailers and the foodservice segment on sustainability messages.

Prior to this role, Parr was marketing director in the United States for AquaChile's Verlasso salmon brand. She also held a domestic marketing director role with ASMI for two years.

Veramaris is the first microalgae oil producer to be certified under the joint Aquaculture Stewardship Council and Marine Stewardship Council (ASC-MSC) seaweed standard.

The company has invested over $200 million (€177.4 million) in its processing plant in Blair, Nebraska, which makes omega-3 oil from marine algae using regular sugar as the source of energy.

Veramaris received US Food and Drug Administration (USDA) approval in June, clearing the way for the sale of its feed to US fish farmers.
