Ecuadorian police are cracking down on violent gangs plaguing the shrimp industry, with latest effort leading to seven arrests and confiscated weapons and boats.

Police announced the arrests Friday in the southern province of El Oro, one of the South American nation's main shrimp producing regions. In addition, a cache of arms and three motor boats were impounded.

Police photos published on Twitter showed the suspects lined up, along with pistols, machine guns, cash and radio equipment.

Motor boats captured by officers were similar to the type used by shrimp producers.
