Tokyo-based Maruha Nichiro, the world's largest seafood company by revenue, announced it reached an agreement to acquire a Vietnamese frozen and shelf-stable seafood and meal producer, and will use the group as a platform to access the "fast-growing" market.

Ho Chi Minh City-based Sai Gon Food Joint Stock Company, was established in 2003 as a custom processor of seafood primarily for the Japanese market.

The company, which now operates under the name Saigon Food, expanded into trading and a single facility to a staff of 2,000 working across four processing facilities with freezing warehouses.
