Nutreco, parent company of aquaculture feed manufacturer Skretting, rolled out a new soy sourcing policy Wednesday aimed at simplifying complex certification schemes for its procurement departments and cutting deforestation from its supply chain by 2025.
Soy and oil palm are key deforestation drivers, causing major sustainability challenges for the aquaculture industry.
Nutreco's policy will help move the needle by highlighting soy producing regions with low and high risks of deforestation and outlining procurement requirements in areas of higher risk.
