Ecuadorian shrimp producers have suffered seven deaths and 60 injuries from violence in more than 90 attacks on their property and businesses over the past three years, figures from trade body the National Chamber of Aquaculture CNA reveal.

In the latest act of violence recorded on Dec. 2, seven shrimp farm workers were assaulted. One of them was shot and the rest were beaten as they transported shrimp by boat through an area of the Gulf of Guayaquil.
