The hard-hit global cruise line sector is taking a subsequent toll on its suppliers, one of which is the smoked salmon sector, which during happier times counted companies such as Disney, Royal Caribbean and Princess for sizeable contracts.

The Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), which represents 95 percent of global ocean-going cruise capacity, announced Nov. 3 its members would maintain an ongoing voluntary suspension of cruise operations in the United States for the remainder for the year.

Although hardly unexpected given the COVID-19 pandemic, the announcement was a blow to smoked salmon suppliers, several of which rely on tens of millions of dollars in revenue from the cruise sector.
