Russia’s Pacific wild salmon season is coming to a close, dramatically missing projections and marking one of the country's worst harvests in over a decade.

According to Russia’s fishery agency, Rosrybolovstvo, as of Oct. 18, salmon harvests in the Far East reached 296,402 metric tons, the lowest level since 2009, and 23 percent lower than the initial 2020 forecast of 384,000 metric tons.

Overall harvests are expected to be around 36 percent lower than last year's and over half as much as 2018, which saw fishermen pull in a record haul.
