Ohad Maiman, the CEO of yellowtail land-based farming company The Kingfish Company, was first struck by the aquaculture industry in 2013 when he was part of a family-run Israeli investment firm.

At the time, Maiman was tasked to run a feasibility study for a salmon recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) project proposed to the investment firm.

Maiman decided "the technology is set to revolutionize the industry and we should forget about everything else and focus on that," he told IntraFish.

The Israeli investment firm found it too early to experiment with the sector, which is when Maiman decided to branch out on his own.
