Chilean Atlantic salmon production reached just over 362,000 metric tons (whole fish equivalent) in the first half of 2020, a 9 percent increase over the same period last year, according to analyst at market research firm Kontali.

In March and April, Chilean farmers processed less than in the same months last year, while harvests in June were 21 percent higher than last year.

Chile's second-quarter salmon exports suffered from a massive slump in demand from the foodservice sector in major markets in the United States and Brazil as the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown restrictions led consumers to stay home.
