Despite the enthusiasm for land-based aquaculture, the sector still faces several obstacles to reach its full potential, a panel of experts said during Tuesday's exclusive IntraFish digital event on the future of land-based salmon farming.

The major hurdle facing the fledgling land-based aquaculture sector is its need for "a major success story," said Brian Vinci, director of the Freshwater Institute, which has for years worked on research and development of recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) projects.
