Will major farmed salmon companies ever embrace land-based production?

Several dozen companies are working on plans for land-based salmon farms both in Norway and elsewhere, especially in the United States and Asia.

The strong interest is due to high salmon prices, limited opportunities for more sea production and better and cheaper technology for land-based production.

Atlantic Sapphire is building a large facility located outside Miami, Florida. Its first fish will be slaughtered in the second half of 2020.

In Norway, there is so far only a small plant, Fredrikstad Seafood.
