Chemical giant Bayer is aiming to expand a pilot program used to improve water treatment in shrimp ponds around the world using technology supplied by artificial intelligence (AI) firm XpertSea.

As it adapts to working with XpertSea's digital documentation tool following a recently announced tie-up between the companies, Bayer said trials in Vietnam, China and India have been "very promising."

Bayer will also look to extend trials to other shrimp producing countries, including Ecuador.

A key aspect of Bayer's search for a partner was finding a digital technology supplier whose technology could be quickly adapted in a rapidly evolving industry.
