On Tuesday a US district court Judge Edward Chen sentenced ex-Bumble Bee CEO Christoper Lischewski to 40 months in prison and fined him $100,000 fine (€88,679) after a long-running trial for his involvement in a conspiracy to fix canned tuna prices on the US market.

Speaking to a near-empty California courtroom through a face mask, Chen said the sentence reflected the fairness of the US legal justice system: “It’s important to send the message that those who engage in high-level economic crimes need to face punishment as much as those that commit low-level crimes, street crime.
