A Chilean marine engineering firm's "roving" aquaculture system is garnering interest from both investors and fish farming companies, potentially pushing the concept closer to reality.

Ocean Arks Tech's 60-meter wide, 170-meter long vessel, which can produce up to 3,900 metric tons of fish, is moving towards gaining an international patent, which will pave the way for broader commercialization, Ocean Arks Founder and Executive Director Rodrigo Sanchez Raccaro told IntraFish.

Ocean Ark's roaming fish farm, with 450 metric tons of storage and room for six to 20 crew, does not need to be anchored to a particular area and can move autonomously.
